Teaching Artist

Position: Teaching Artist
Location: Flexible base with extensive touring to Regional and Remote Queensland.
Contract Type: Full-Time/Part-Time, Contractual

Role Overview: The Teaching Artist will work closely with the Education Manager and Artistic Directors at Shake & Stir Theatre Co to design and implement arts programs that align with the Queensland Curriculum. This role requires travelling across regional and remote areas of Queensland to deliver high-quality, arts-focused workshops and residencies. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in creating curriculum-relevant content and engaging teaching methods to ensure impactful learning experiences. The role is ideal for someone with a robust understanding of the practical side of the arts, including theatre production, visual arts, and multimedia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Shake & Stir Theatre Co’s Education Manager and Artistic Directors to develop arts education programs that align with the Queensland Curriculum.
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate hands-on, arts-focused workshops and residencies in various educational and community settings across regional and remote Queensland.
  • Apply practical arts knowledge to create immersive and educational experiences for students and community members.
  • Travel extensively across different locations, managing logistics and materials for each program.
  • Engage with diverse groups, adapting content to meet different educational and cultural needs.
  • Assess participant engagement and learning outcomes, providing valuable feedback for future program enhancements.
  • Represent Shake & Stir Theatre Co professionally, promoting our values of creativity, inclusivity, and educational excellence.

Requirements:

  • Energetic enthusiasm for the arts, especially the youth arts sector.
  • Experience in arts education, preferably with hands-on, practical arts and theatre production.
  • Familiarity with the Queensland Curriculum and ability to integrate educational content with arts programming.
  • Exceptional planning, organisational, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of motivating and inspiring diverse audiences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Queensland.
  • Current open driver's license.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (QLD Blue Card)
